Do you have your resolution ready to go? I hope so! If you have not made your resolution yet, pray for God’s guidance and create one. You can read part 1 of this blog post HERE for more information on creating your New Year’s Resolution.
Take a look at what you have placed on your resolution. You have listed what you want to accomplish and achieve in 2017. Great!
Now we need to take the next step.
Open your Bible and find scripture that relates to each resolution you have listed.
For example, if one of your resolutions is to have a better year with your finances in the way you earn and spend money you might use Proverbs 3:9-10 as a guiding verse, “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.”
Or, if you listed on your resolution that you would like to have better control of your health and monitor what you eat, you might use 1 Corinthians 10:31, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
The more verses you can find to help encourage, guide, and educate you on how to achieve your resolution, the better! The concordance in the back of your Bible can be of great use in finding your verses. Or, researching on the web can easily help you in finding scripture over specific topics.
By completing this task, we are involving God with the dreams and goals of our lives. We are allowing Him to lead us in our accomplishments. These verses will be useful to us throughout the year and help us focus on Him as we begin accomplishing our New Year’s resolutions.
If you find yourself with something on your resolution that seems to not adhere with any scripture, if you are struggling to find scripture to guide and support something you have written down, this could be an indicator that it is not within the will of God. Speak with a godly friend, your pastor, or feel free to contact me if you run into the situation and need another to pray and evaluate your resolution.
Once your resolution has been equipped with scripture to give you a path on achieving what God want for your life in 2017, I would encourage you to share your resolution with a godly and trustworthy friend. The intent of sharing your resolution is to have a friend who will help hold you accountable and pray with you in the context of your resolution. My husband and I will be sharing with each other, offering support, prayer, and accountability to one another.
If your friend has not made a resolution with God as their co-author, ask them them to do so. That way you can each encourage the other throughout 2017.
We need to be sure and reference our resolution often. Prayer, using the scripture God has given us to guide us in our resolution, will be the key to 2017.
